Letest situation of india vs pakistan article

1. Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty

India has unilaterally suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty and accelerated hydroelectric projects in Jammu and Kashmir, including Pakal Dul, Kiru, Kwar, and Ratle. These projects are on rivers primarily allocated to Pakistan under the treaty. Pakistan has condemned this move, warning that diversion of water could be deemed an act of war, as the Indus system supports 80% of its agriculture and hydroelectric energy.

2. Military Preparations and Drills

India has initiated nationwide emergency drills in preparation for potential conflict, marking the most extensive readiness effort since the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. These drills include air raid siren tests, blackout simulations, and evacuation plans across 244 districts. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh hinted at potential military retaliation, while Pakistan has conducted missile tests and warned of possible Indian military action.

3. Diplomatic and Economic Measures

Both countries have taken significant diplomatic and economic steps:

Closure of the only open land border and mutual airspace restrictions.

Suspension of bilateral agreements and cessation of trade.

Mutual expulsion of defense advisers and downsizing of embassies.

India has blocked Pakistani social media accounts and YouTube channels.

Sporting relations have been affected, with Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra rescinding an invitation to Pakistani javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem.

4. Impact on Kashmir's Tourism

The tourism industry in Kashmir has been severely disrupted. Hotels and houseboats are offering discounts of up to 70% as bookings plummet. Popular destinations like Neelum Valley have been closed, and businesses anticipate significant financial losses. Local workers report a complete halt in activity and express a desire for peace to restore economic stability.

5. International Reactions

The United Nations has urged both sides to exercise "maximum restraint" and resolve issues diplomatically. Countries like Iran have offered to mediate, while the U.S., U.K., and Russia have issued travel advisories. China has called for de-escalation, and the U.S. has reaffirmed its support for India's counterterrorism efforts.
